What We Do

Retina and field view

Glaucoma management has grown to be a very specialized sub-field of ophthalmology that benefits from the use of dedicated and highly technical equipment. Hudson Valley Glaucoma Care houses state-of-the-art equipment, and a patient's  evaluation takes full advantage of all the powerful diagnostic techniques that are thereby available. Dr. Schumer and his staff at Hudson Valley Glaucoma Care employ a virtual arsenal of equipment which is, with regard to glaucoma evaluation and management, unique in the Hudson Valley and which is comparable to that found at any academic medical center in a major urban setting. Equipment includes:

  • The Heidelberg spectral-domain OCT high-resolution 3-D anatomic imaging system
  • Non-invasive optical angiography (ocular blood supply imaging)
  • State-of-the-art visual field testing equipment (3 different machines)
  • Ultra-wide-field high-resolution high-magnification photographic imaging of the inside of the eye (including wide-field fundus, peripheral retina, and optic nerve)
  • 3 different therapeutic lasers for different kinds of glaucoma-related eye conditions (argon, Nd: Yag, SLT)
  • High-resolution digital microphotography of the eye (anterior segment, retina, optic nerve)
  • A variety of bio-mechanical assessments of the eye

Dr. Schumer is trained, skilled, and highly experienced at performing in-office laser surgery for Glaucoma and various complex surgical glaucoma procedures. He also brings to bear a rich body of scientific and clinical knowledge of ocular anatomy, physiology, and pathology as well as of mechanisms of disease. The staff at Hudson Valley Glaucoma Care are all highly trained, conscientious, and committed to attentive and intelligent patient care in general and to glaucoma diagnosis and treatment in particular. (You can see what other patients have had to say by clicking here).

The overall purpose and goal of our work at Hudson Valley Glaucoma Care is to diagnose and treat Glaucoma in all its manifestations, whether newly diagnosed, chronic and well-controlled, or advanced and/or poorly controlled.
